Jean Llewellyn has been appointed as the Chief Executive of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, following a yearlong secondment from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), leading the Skills Academy Project Team that developed the successful Skills Academy Business Plan, Jean’s appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process.
Jean, as Head of Skills Policy for the NWDA, has been involved in the nuclear skills agenda for the past four years, leading on and supporting the development of initiatives to meet the growing skills challenges facing the nuclear sector. Jean was Chair of the National Nuclear Employers Steering Group for two years, a period which saw a successful bid to create the Nuclear Academy training facility in West Cumbria, which will be a key delivery arm of the National Skills Academy, when building is completed in early 2008.
Jean has been a vital driving force for the creation of the National Skills Academy, and has already forged strong links internationally, ensuring the Skills Academy delivers on its world-class skills remit.
Jean is well-known in the nuclear industry due to her lead role on skills development for the sector. She has presented on the skills issues facing the industry to the European Parliament and numerous National and International Nuclear Conferences.
The employer-led business plan for National Skills Academy for Nuclear gained government approval on the 24th September 2007 in an announcement made by the Skills Minister, David Lammy. The Skills Academy will assist Nuclear employers in tackling the current and future skills barriers and challenges facing the Nuclear industry not just in relation to the Governments £65bn cleanup programme but also for waste management, defence, fuel processing and enrichment, power production and to ensure the sector has the skills and additional resources available for potential new build.
Jean’s first task will be to recruit the Skills Academy team, to take forward the work already completed by the Project Team.
